How to Get Prescription Blue Light Glasses in Nigeria: Eye Test, Lenses, Price and Delivery

How do you get prescription blue light glasses in Nigeria? Get an eye test from a qualified optometrist and ask for your written prescription, including your pupillary distance (PD). Then choose a frame and a lens, such as anti blue light or photochromic blue cut, and upload the prescription on our Prescription page or send it on WhatsApp. We confirm your lenses, price and delivery date before you pay, and our partner opticians make your lenses. After production, delivery takes about 24 to 48 hours in Lagos and 3 to 7 working days to other states. Lens & Co by Tiara is an eyewear store, not an eye clinic. We do not run eye tests ourselves, but we work with partner opticians who help with prescriptions.

Last updated: 10 October 2026. We checked prices on the same day. Written by the Lens & Co by Tiara team, a Nigerian eyewear brand in Ogba, Lagos with nearly 10 years in business. This guide is general information, not medical advice. Ask your optometrist about your own eyes.

The 6 steps to prescription blue light glasses

The process is the same whether you live in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt or anywhere else in Nigeria. Only the delivery time changes.

Step 1: get an eye test from a qualified optometrist

A blue light filter does not correct your vision. Only a measured prescription does, so the eye test comes first. Also, the American Academy of Ophthalmology explains that a comprehensive eye exam includes refraction, where the doctor uses a device called a phoropter to find the best glasses prescription. The exam also checks visual acuity, eye pressure, eye movement and the health of the front and back of the eye, and it typically takes 45 to 90 minutes.

Choose a registered practitioner. The Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) regulates optometrists and dispensing opticians, and its website has a Look up a practitioner tool.

How often should you test? The same AAO page says adults under 40 with healthy eyes need a complete exam every 5 to 10 years, with more frequent checks later in life. If you already wear glasses, or you get headaches or blurry vision, ask your optometrist how often to come back. In addition, we suggest a new test if your prescription is more than two years old.

About cost and partner opticians. The clinic you choose sets the eye test fee, so ask when you book. Also, you pay that fee to the clinic, not to us. Lens & Co by Tiara does not run eye tests itself, but we work with partner opticians who help with prescription glasses. In addition, ask us on WhatsApp how to arrange your prescription, or use any qualified optometrist and send us the result. After you send your prescription, we make your lenses through our partner opticians.

Step 2: get the right numbers on your prescription

Your prescription is a list of numbers for each eye. This table explains what they mean, based on the American Academy of Ophthalmology guide to reading a prescription and All About Vision.

What the prescription terms mean
TermWhat it meansWhy it matters
ODYour right eye (oculus dexter)The line with your right lens numbers
OSYour left eye (oculus sinister)The line with your left lens numbers
SPH (sphere)Lens power in diopters. A minus sign means nearsighted and a plus sign means farsightedThe main strength of your lens
CYL (cylinder)How much astigmatism you have, if anyLeave it blank only if your optometrist left it blank
AXISWhere the astigmatism sits on the corneaAlways goes with a cylinder number
ADDExtra power for near vision, as in reading glasses and bifocalsNeeded for reading prescriptions
PDThe distance between your pupils in millimetresHelps each lens line up with your pupil

Ask for your PD. All About Vision notes that PD is rarely included on a prescription unless you ask for it, and an accurate PD helps the lens centre line up with each pupil. If it is not on your prescription, tell us when you message us.

Send a glasses prescription. A contact lens prescription differs from a glasses prescription, so ask your optometrist for the glasses version.

New to the numbers? Also, read how to read your glasses prescription and what OD, OS and OU mean.

Step 3: choose your lens, and decide if you want blue light filtering

You can choose any of our four lens types with your prescription.

Lens types for prescription glasses
LensBest forWhat to know
Clear LensPlain everyday prescription glassesNo tint and no filter
Anti Blue LightDesk work, study and gamingClear lenses that filter part of the blue light from phones, laptops and TV
PhotochromicTime outdoors in the sunClear indoors, darkens in sunlight, with UV400 protection
Photochromic Blue CutScreens and sun in one pairFilters screen light and darkens outdoors

An honest note. Blue light filters are optional, and there is little evidence for them. Also, the American Academy of Ophthalmology says several studies suggest blue light glasses do not improve digital eye strain. In addition, the 2023 Cochrane review of 17 trials found they probably make no difference to eye strain, and the College of Optometrists advises optometrists not to promote them for fatigue, sleep or eye health without evidence. Also, we offer them because many people find them comfortable on screens, not as a treatment. In addition, read are blue light glasses worth it in Nigeria? for the full picture.

How to choose. For a screen-heavy day, pick Anti Blue Light. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, pick Photochromic. To cover both, Photochromic Blue Cut handles screens indoors and sun outdoors in one pair. In addition, photochromic lenses darken in response to UV light, so they usually stay lighter behind a car windscreen, which blocks most UV. Also, a scratch-resistant coating is optional, and we confirm the option and its price on WhatsApp. For a deeper comparison, see photochromic vs blue cut lenses and how photochromic glasses work in Nigerian sun.

Step 4: pick a frame that works with prescription lenses

Look for Suitable for Prescription Use on the product page. If you like a frame without that mark, ask us on WhatsApp before you order. Product pages also list lens width, bridge and temple length, so you can compare sizes with a pair you already own.

In general, stronger prescriptions mean thicker lenses, and smaller frames usually keep them thinner. In addition, send us your prescription and your frame choice, and we confirm what is possible before you pay. Use the face shape tool and the virtual try-on to narrow your choices, or read which glasses should I buy?. Here are six frames that suit prescription lenses, with prices we checked on 10 October 2026.

Seven mistakes to avoid when ordering prescription glasses online

  1. Using an old prescription without a new eye test when your vision has changed.
  2. Sending a blurry or cropped photo. Every number must be readable.
  3. Leaving out your PD. Ask your optometrist to write it down.
  4. Sending a contact lens prescription. Ask for the glasses prescription.
  5. Choosing the wrong lens for your day. Match the lens to where you spend your time: screens, sun or both.
  6. Choosing a frame without the prescription mark and without asking first.
  7. Paying before you confirm. Check the lens, price and delivery date in writing first.

Where can I get an eye test in Nigeria?

Visit a qualified optometrist at an eye clinic, hospital or optical practice, or ask us about our partner opticians on WhatsApp. Also, the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) regulates the profession and has a Look up a practitioner tool on its website, so you can check that a practitioner is registered. In addition, the clinic sets the eye test fee, so ask before you book.

Do I need my PD to order prescription glasses online?

Yes, ask for it. PD, or pupillary distance, is the distance between your pupils in millimetres, and it helps the optical centre of each lens line up with your pupil. All About Vision notes that PD is rarely included on a prescription unless you ask for it. If your PD is not on your prescription, tell us when you message us.

Can I use an old prescription?

You can send it, but we recommend a recent one from a qualified optometrist. If yours is more than two years old, or your vision seems to have changed, consider a new eye test first. Also, we confirm your prescription with you on WhatsApp before production, since we cannot exchange prescription lenses once we make them.

How long does delivery take for prescription glasses?

We make prescription lenses to order, so they take longer than ready lenses. In addition, the production time depends on your prescription and lens type, and we confirm your delivery date before you pay. After production, Lagos orders usually arrive within 24 to 48 hours, and orders to other states take 3 to 7 working days.

How much do prescription blue light glasses cost?

Frames start from ₦10,000, and each product page lists its lens options and prices. For prescription lenses, the price depends on your prescription and the lens type you choose, so we confirm the full price on WhatsApp before you pay. Also, you pay the eye test fee to the clinic, not to us. In addition, see how much blue light glasses cost in Nigeria.

Can I exchange prescription glasses?

No. In addition, we cannot exchange Prescription, Photochromic, Photochromic Blue Cut and Clear Lens orders, because we make them for each customer once they pay. If your order arrives damaged or not as advertised, report it within 24 hours of delivery. In addition, see the returns policy.

Can I send my prescription on WhatsApp?

Yes. Also, send a clear photo of your prescription to +234 810 023 1746 with the frame you like, and we guide you from there.

Do prescription blue light glasses reduce eye strain?

There is little evidence for blue light filters. In addition, the American Academy of Ophthalmology says several studies suggest blue light glasses do not improve digital eye strain, and the 2023 Cochrane review found they probably make no difference in the short term. Also, a correct prescription can help if uncorrected vision is part of the problem, which is why an eye test comes first. Also, see eye strain from screens.

Do you deliver prescription glasses outside Lagos?

Yes. In addition, we deliver to all 36 states and the FCT. Also, orders outside Lagos take 3 to 7 working days after production, and we confirm the date before you pay. In addition, see the pages for Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.
