How to tell if blue light glasses are real
Real blue cut lenses usually show a faint blue or purple reflection when you tilt them under a light. For a better check, shine a blue light torch or blue laser pointer onto white paper and hold the lens in front of it: the blue spot should look noticeably dimmer. Home tests cannot measure how much blue light is filtered, so buy from a seller who names the lens type clearly.
1. The reflection check
Hold the glasses under a ceiling light or near a window and tilt them. Blue cut lenses usually show a faint blue or purple sheen on the surface. This is a quick first check, but on its own it does not prove the lens filters blue light, because other lens coatings can reflect colour too.
2. The blue light torch test
- Get a blue light torch or blue laser pointer. They are cheap and easy to find.
- Shine it onto a sheet of white paper in a dim room.
- Hold the lens between the light and the paper.
- If the lens filters blue light, the blue spot should look clearly dimmer. If nothing changes, the lens is probably not blue cut.
3. Check the lens type on the order
A genuine seller tells you exactly which lens you are buying: anti blue light, photochromic or photochromic blue cut. Be careful with listings that say "computer glasses" or "fashion glasses" with no lens details.
What home tests cannot tell you
No home test can tell you the exact percentage of blue light a lens filters. They only show whether the lens filters some blue light or none. Also remember that plain photochromic lenses are made for sun, not screens, so they may not pass a blue light test. That is expected.

Frequently asked questions
Do real blue light glasses have a blue reflection?
Usually, yes. Most blue cut lenses show a faint blue or purple reflection when tilted under light. It does not affect your view.
Are yellow-tinted lenses better at blocking blue light?
Strongly tinted lenses block more blue light, but they change how colours look. Clear blue cut lenses are designed for everyday wear, including at work.
Do photochromic lenses block blue light from screens?
Plain photochromic lenses are made for the sun, not screens. For both, choose photochromic blue cut lenses.
